I am giving this knife 5 stars but mostly because of the value. I like the larger survival knives mostly for the purpose battoning wood. I like a knife that can be abused as a sapling and branch chopper for building shelter, scraping mud off your boots, pry bar functions, sharping sticks, pounding through bone, cutting everything from meat to cans. The long thick blade can do almost anything. You get your money''s worth for $50. I wanted the Cold Steel Trailmaster but they are 3 times the price now. This Ka-Bar can get the job done at the camp site and that is for sure. The hole at the top at the grip and the way the grip meets the blade makes it possible to lash this knife to a stick to make a spear in a survial situation. Five stars in the bang for the buck catagory!

I've bought this knife a while back, and I was really impressed, it was razor sharp out of the box and takes an even sharper edge easily. the handle is a little big for me, but I'm tiny, so it'll probably do fine for anyone else.the knife has no real guard to speak of though the handle does square off at the blade making neat little shoulders that fit the hand quite nicely. the knife is impressively thick and damn wide as well, but it still has a nice weight to it, not too heavy and definitely not too light. I wasn't a real big fan of the sheath, I would have much preferred an all leather or all cordura approach, hell even kydex would have done nicely. the sheath has an awkward Dlink hinge where the belt loop attaches to the actual sheath. I'm at as loss as to why they did that, other then the possibility that the handle is too chunky for a conventional design.. I dunno, it's odd, you'll see what I mean if you get your own. possible improvements could be made sheath wise, and if you were to use this as a pure fighting knife, I'm sure with a little work the false edge along the top could be sharpened as well.all in all a great knife.
